As tickets for public transportation can also be collected in advance, you will not have to search for money while the driver and the other passengers have to wait for you. In addition, it is cheaper to buy your public transportation ticket in advance.
MUSEUMS AND ATTRACTIONS Would you like to see the Madame Tussauds waxworks or the animals in Artis Zoo? Are you keen to admire the paintings by Van Gogh and Rembrandt? Buy your tickets in advance from one of the VVV tourist information offices. This will ensure that you will not have to queue at the attraction of your choice. The tourist information offices also sell tickets to many other great attractions in Holland, such as Six Flags Holland, Madurodam, Keukenhof and the Kröller-Müller Museum. The tourist information office opposite Central Station has a special theater desk for even faster service.
THEATER SHOWS AND CONCERTS Every year more than 15,000 theater shows and concerts are performed on stages in Amsterdam and throughout Holland. Tickets are available from all local tourist information offices. Day by Day is a monthly magazine listing what is on.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION We recommend you buy tickets for the tram, subway, bus and night bus from one of the outlets of Amsterdam Tourist Office or from the Municipal Transportation Company (GVB). It is possible to buy tickets on the bus or tram, however, it is considerably cheaper to buy them in advance.
DAY PASS If you just plan to travel by public transportation within Amsterdam, it is best to buy a day pass or an Amsterdam Pass. Day passes, valid for one or more days, are available from the VVV tourist information offices in Amsterdam and at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The Amsterdam Pass not only entitles you to use public transportation services throughout the city, it also offers free admission to many museums and attractions as well as discounts.
'STRIPPEN CARD' If you also plan to travel by public transportation outside Amsterdam, it is best to buy a so-called strippen card. These strippen cards may be used throughout Holland. Strippen cards and the Amsterdam Pass are available from all VVV tourist information offices.
INTERNATIONAL BUS TICKETS At the VVV Holland Tourist Information desk you can also buy international bus tickets, for, among other companies, Eurolines and Gullivers. These companies offer daily connections to well over 500 European destinations. |
