Naturalia is the new exhibition of Naturalis Leiden. Naturalia shows remarkable objects from the collection of the Zoological Museum of the University of Amsterdam. Think of stuffed animals, skeletons, specimens in alcohol and curiosities which have not been accessible to the general public for years. Together, these objects offer an astonishing glimpse of changes in the practice of natural history collection over the years and the changing perception of nature.
The exhibition "Naturalia" shows the development of natural history collecting over time. Not only has the intention behind collecting changed, but also the way nature is viewed, has gradually shifted.
The exhibition is shaped by an extensive collection of animals, scientific objects, and the theories of Darwin and Wallace. Special stories, such as elephant Jack in Artis Zoo and the lion of Louis Napoléon are also on exhibit.
Naturalis Leiden is a museum that informs visitors of all ages on the origin and evolution of Earth. Permanent exhibitions are complemented by temporary exhibitions on the earth, wildlife, and remarkable natural phenomena along with other developments on our planet.
The museum is located only a five minutes walk from Leiden Central Station and is a fun day out for the whole family.
