Edam and Volendam

Edam
The town of "Edam" is mostly associated with "cheese". This is quite understandable since the popular round Edam cheeses first travelled from this town to all corners of the world many centuries ago. The traditional cheese market, which has been restored to its former glory and takes place every week during the high season, as well as the few remaining cheese warehouses keep the memory of this fragrant and colourful past alive. But Edam is more than cheese! Edam is also a town with a rich history, extraordinary facades, squares, bridges, monumental buildings, convivial shopping streets and attractive outdoor cafés.
Volendam
Volendam, the old fishing village on the IJsselmeer, boasts traditional costumes, sports, music and, of course, fish. The harbour backs onto numerous tiny cottages. Did you know that during holidays and on the Volendammerdijk large parts of the population still wear their traditional costumes?
