Erasmus bridge

This is the new link between North and South and unquestionably the most famous bridge in Holland and the pride of many Rotterdammers. Queen Beatrix opened 'The Swan' on September 4, 1996.
Impressive figures
The total length of the bridge is 800 m, with a free span of 400 m. The pylon is 139 m high and fastened by 32 stays. The bridge consists of a fixed section with shipping clearance of 260 m and a bascule bridge that leaves 50 m clearance for shipping. If these figures are not impressive enough, consider the cost, which was 400 million guilders (about EUR 181 million). Architect Ben van Berkel designed Rotterdam's new icon.
