Great or St. Laurens Church

The Grote Kerk or St. Laurenskerk is a late Gothic cross-basilica of the so-called Utrecht type. The church was built between about 1449 and 1525 of brick, with sandstone dividing bands.
Sea heroes and organs
The church consists of a west tower in four sections (1646) and an older nave with aisles and chapel ring, a transept and choir with gallery and two chapels (north and south). Pillars with a double leaf capital separate nave and aisles. The copper choir fence (1713) and the sepulchres of the sea heroes Kortenaar, Van Brakel and Witte de With were badly damaged but have since been restored. The same applies to the carillon of F. Hemony (1660). The bronze doors made by G. Manzù were installed in 1968. The church has three organs (main, transept, and choir organ) made by the Danish organ builder Marcussen.
