Kop van Zuid

Kop van Zuid, RotterdamKop van Zuid, Rotterdam

Cross the Erasmus Bridge from north to south to find yourself in a completely new area. To the right of the Bridge is Wilhelminakade and a completely renovated passenger terminal. It is the former arrival and departure hall of the Holland America Line. And now, once again the great passenger liners are mooring here. You will also see restored warehouses where students live. Additional features are the Maritime Safety Center and Hotel New York. The latter was the headquarters of the Holland America Line, built by C.B. van der Tak, Drooglever Fortuyn and J. Müller in 1901. Since 1993 it has been a hotel and grand cafe.

Offices and art

Directly in front of the bridge the Wilhelminahof is located. It houses with the new offices of the tax authorities and the Ministry of Justice, the courthouse, an office tower and the entrance to the subway stations at Wilhelminaplein. The art structure to the right of the bridge was designed by architect P. Wilson. It gives the time and temperature and the estimated world population. The other figures are arbitrary and without significance.

Information center

To the left of the bridge, past the gateway building across the road and on the waterside lies the Kop van Zuid Information Center. It provides information on the developments in this part of the city. It is open Mondays through Saturdays from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
