Willemsbrug

Willemsbrug, RotterdamWillemsbrug, Rotterdam

This bright red bridge with a total span of about 318 meters connects the northern section of Rotterdam at Maasboulevard and Noordereiland at Zuid. It replaced an older bridge - also named Willemsbrug - which had been opened in 1878 but was severely outdated.

From the time of its construction (1975-1981) to the completion of the Erasmus Bridge (1996), the Willems Bridge, designed by the architect A. Veerling, dominated the skyline of Rotterdam. Today this distinction goes to the Erasmus Bridge.
