Cube-shaped houses

Rotterdam’s famous cube-shaped houses, designed by Piet Blom, are situated just outside Blaak railway station. Most of these houses are occupied. However, one of the houses is open to visitors. It allows you to experience what it is like to live in such an unusual house.
Representation of a tree and a wood
Piet Blom designed the cube-shaped houses. His design represents a tree and all houses together make up a wood. Blom’s concept was to design a kind of village within a main city, a safe haven in which anything could happen.
Cube House Interior
Upon entering the cube you first have to ascend a staircase. This brings you to a space with slanting windows. Mind your head, as some sections of this area are only 1.5 meters high. The interior is quite extraordinary, as there are no straight walls. The bedroom and bathroom are located on the second floor. The top part of the cube houses an additional bedroom. Scale models, photo panels and screens supply additional information.
