After your meeting in Leiden

Leiden is a very compact city, but don’t let this fool you. There is more to discover than there is time. The great advantage: you don’t need a car to get around. Everything is within walking distance. Or rent a bike and do like the locals do.

Leiden is a very compact city, but don’t let this fool you. There is more to discover than there is time. The great advantage: you don’t need a car to get around. Everything is within walking distance. Or rent a bike and do like the locals do.

  • 13 museums within walking distance
  • Unique dining experiences in historical buildings
  • 28km/17mi of canals in the historic city centre

Museums and attractions

Leiden has the highest concentration of museums in The Netherlands, four of which are National Museums. And they are all located within walking distance. Learn more about Dutch Masters like Rembrandt and Lievens, dive into the history of science and medicine, take a walk through the human body at CORPUS or say ‘hi’ to Europe’s first and only Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton (coming in the fall of 2016). Some museums also offer private tours after closing. Leiden has more than 100 mural poems spread all over the city centre. Take a guided tour that takes a scenic route along 25 of these special murals.

Wining and dining

You can quite literally taste the world in Leiden’s many restaurants. Looking for a unique experience that will leave your event attendees speechless? How about dinner in a 14th century church with up to 1.500 people? If your group is a bit smaller (up to 300 attendees) you can also do a walking dinner in a 19th century concert room. Other wining and dining options include a wine tasting in a castle, dinner at a national museum next to a 2000 year-old Egyptian temple or a buffet at an industrial factory dating back to 1817.

Creative incentives

Leiden’s historical city centre alone has about 28 kilometres (17 miles) of canals. And while you can easily cross the canals by foot via the 88 (!) bridges you can also change your perspective and discover Leiden from the water. Choose a cruise package in one of the open or closed boats and learn about Leiden’s history while enjoying lunch, dinner or drinks. If you feel more active you can also cruise the canals by kayak or rowing boat.

Did you know that Leiden is also easily accessible due to its convenient location?
