Madurodam

The world-famous miniature city Madurodam presents everything Holland is famous for, replicated to the smallest detail on a scale of 1:25. It’s an excellent way to familiarise yourself with all the surprising features Holland has to offer.
Cheese market and Schiphol Airport
The Alkmaar cheese market, the Peace Palace of The Hague, the Royal Palace on Dam Square and canal houses of Amsterdam, the Cathedral Tower of Utrecht and parts of the world famous Delta works. Everything you expect to find in Holland and much more has been replicated to the smallest detail. And it’s all in full movement too! Windmills turn, aeroplanes land at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, sightseeing boats move down canals and modern trains travel from city to city on the world’s largest miniature railway.
Spectacular views
The two restaurants offer spectacular panoramic views, especially when the evening falls and more than 50,000 lights create an enchanting atmosphere. Set in beautiful flower gardens, a visit to Madurodam is truly a great day out for young and old alike!
Sesame Street in Madurodam - 10 April up to 6 September 2009
Exhibition brings TV series to life again
From 10 April up to and including 6 September 2009 the smallest city of the Netherlands, in association with non-profit educational organisation Sesame Workshop, will be organising the ‘Sesame Street in Madurodam’ exhibition. At the exhibition hall children can meet the characters of the TV series and personally experience everything which can be seen on television. Drawing and tinkering with Bert and Ernie, enjoying themselves at the Broccoli Forest, counting with Count von Count and, not to forget: taking a picture with walkarounds Bert, Ernie or Elmo.
Broadcast in 120 countries
The toddler and pre-schooler programme Sesame Street originally comes from the United States. It exists since 1969. The American programme makers appear to have, at that time, developed a unique, ‘universal’ formula to learn children how to count and spell without effort: in the meantime the series is broadcast in over 120 countries, in more than 30 different international versions. It is the longest running TV series in the world.
Sesame Street in Holland
On 4 January 1976 the NOS (now NPS) started the transmissions. The programme is still unprecedented popular among all generations and has a name awareness of almost one hundred percent. Nowadays Sesame Street can be seen on TV three times a day. In addition to the international figures like Bert, Ernie and Elmo special figures have been developed for the Dutch Sesame Street.
