The post-mills of Heusden

Mill, Heusden

In 1968 restoration work on the entire town, badly damaged in World War II, was started. A part of this extensive restoration was the return of the three post-mills, which once adorned the town’s walls, to their original location.

Heusden was heavily damaged in World War II. It was uncertain whether the lovely fortress city and its mills would ever recover. In 1968 restoration work on the entire town was started. Heusden got back its walls, canals and bastions, just like in the 16th century. The town’s 134 monuments received a facelift and the inner harbor was dug again.

Unique skyline

A part of this extensive restoration was the return of the three post-mills, which once adorned the town’s walls, to their original location. This gave Heusden back its unique skyline. Do take a walk along the town’s walls. You will enjoy magnificent views, unique vistas and beautiful mills. Heusden is probably one of the best-kept secrets in Holland.
