't dorp Oeteldonk.

Towards the end of the 19th century the excesses associated with Carnival were criticized by citizens as well as the church. A number of Den Bosch citizens gathered and conceived of a plan to save the festival. They would re-christen the chic city of Den Bosch ‘Oeteldonk village’ for a duration of three days.

Symbolism

During this three-day period all men and women could become farmers or durske (dialect for girl) and different rules applied. The rules were never changed and Oeteldonk still has its own mayor and a broad range of symbols. Den Bosch during Carnival festivities is something you will not forget easily.
