Laurens Janszoon Coster (Grote Markt below Sint Bavokerk): The statue of Laurens Jansz. Coster is called “Lautje” by the locals. According to many Dutchmen and everyone in Haarlem, he invented the printing press.

Drogisterij A.J. Van der Pigge (Gierstraat 3): This special chemist’s shop has been a family business since 1849. The Haarlemmerolie or Haarlem oil is the most popular product they sell. It is a special recipe supposed to heal all ills.

Hofje van Bakenes (Bakenessergracht): The oldest ‘hofje’ or courtyard in Haarlem was built in 1395 and lies between the Toneelschuur and Philharmonie.

De Jopenkerk (Gedempte Voldersgracht 2): This former church now houses a beer brewery that brews its own Jopenbier. You will also find a grand café and restaurant in the church building where you can admire the interior of the church and brewery.

Wijngaardtuin (Morinnesteeg): A green oasis from which you can enjoy the Sint Bavokerk’s church bells.

The graves of Frans Hals and Pieter Teyler (Sint Bavokerk): When exploring the Sint Bavokerk, seek out the graves of the famous painter Frans Hals and textile trader Pieter Teyler van der Hulst, whose inheritance was used to establish the Teylers Museum.

Damiaatjes (Sint Bavokerk): Every night from 21:00 to 21:30 you can hear the church bells ringing. They are lovingly called ‘Damiaatjes’.

V&D roof terrace (Grote Houtstraat 70): The V&D department store has a roof terrace where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and/or lunch as well as beautiful views of the city.

Ice Cream Salon Garonne (Grote Houtstraat 179): The best ice cream in Haarlem and surrounding areas is served at IJssalon Garonne, which was established in 1949.

Friethoes (Kruisweg 43): Everything is eco at this snack bar, which serves the nation’s best French fries and sauces.
