Fantasy in action

Hieronymus Bosch was unique because of his bizarre imagination. Most of his paintings have biblical themes and are filled with fantastical figures and ambiguities. Many of his works are still a mystery to scientists and art lovers. Countless other painters were inspired by his work, including big names like Salvador Dalí, Jorg Immendorf and Robert Gober.

Explore the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center

The Jheronimus Bosch Art Center is located in the medieval centre of 's-Hertogenbosch. A stylish complex consisting of a former church and its annexes houses a range of exhibitions on the life, ideas and works of Hieronymus Bosch.

When you visit the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center you will first be introduced to Bosch by means of a film portrait of the artist and the time in which he lived. You will then take a glass elevator to the top of the 40 metre tower to enjoy the wonderful view of the city of ’s-Hertogenbosch.

The four gallery spaces below contain an overview of Hieronymus Bosch’s entire oeuvre in the form of high-quality life-size photographic reproductions. You can open and close the triptychs yourself, as it was done in Bosch’s own time.

A collection of unique wall tapestries showcasing details of Bosch’s works is on display throughout the exhibition space. In the basement you will find a reconstruction of Hieronymus Bosch’s workshop, which will make you believe you have travelled back in time.

The Bosch Experience

Het Jheronimus Bosch Art Center is part of the Bosch Experience. This exploration allows you to follow in the painter’s footsteps, discovering what his life in medieval ’s-Hertogenbosch was like.
