Discover Mondrian in Amersfoort
Piet Mondrian was born at Kortegracht 11, and lived there for the first eight years of his life while his father worked as headmaster at the neighbouring school. Both the home and the adjoining school building now house the Mondriaanhuis museum – pronounced in English simply as the Mondrian House.
Take in a multimedia exhibition that traces Mondrian’s life through letters, photographs, documents and film and radio footage to learn about the man behind the art. See some of his early works up close and step into a life-sized reconstruction of his Paris studio at rue de Depart 26, where he lived and worked from 1921 to 1936, offering a rare insight into his way of working during that period. The museum also regularly hosts temporary exhibitions of artists whose work has been influenced by Mondrian and the De Stijl movement.
In 2017, as part of the celebrations for 100 years of De Stijl, the Mondriaanhuis unveils an impressive refurbishment which offers a fresh perspective on Piet Mondrian with new exhibitions, multimedia presentations and interactive experiences.

In the so-called ‘Treasure Room’ you can see paintings from the very start of his career, while in film room ‘The Works’, take a seat and learn about his artistic development, from his earliest landscape through to ‘Victory Boogie Woogie’.
