If you prefer a movie, ask for directions to the Pathé cinema because it is one of the biggest cinemas in Holland.
Café de Vijfhoek (Wolstraat 20): Café de Vijfhoek is located in the very centre of Haarlem. The piano is there for a reason, so feel free to start a little jam session.
Café Stiels (Smedestraat 21): This is the place to go in Haarlem for jazz, rhythm and blues.
Proeflokaal In den Uiver (Riviervismarkt 13): This old-fashioned jazz café always welcomes strangers. The tasting room offers a broad range of beers, Dutch gin (jenever) and whiskies.
Café ’t Kantoor (Gierstraat 78): You will feel right at home in this beautiful café. It organises cabaret or music performances on a regular basis.
Storing (Houtplein 12): Booze, snacks, DJs and bands. It sounds simple and so it is – but it guarantees a welcoming, upbeat mood.
Vigh wijnbar (Grote Markt 4): With over 120 wines to choose from, it’s easy to spend the entire evening at wine bar Vigh.
Taverne De Waag (Damstraat 29): Eat, drink, enjoy the sun on the terrace, watch the boats passing by, listen to live music and admire the historic monument De Waag.
If you want to have a drink in the sun, watch the boats sailing on the Spaarne or just enjoy some people-watching in the open air, find a place on one of Haarlem's many terraces. The biggest, most popular terrace is located on the Grote Markt. There are nice places on the Botermarkt, Klokhuisplein, Damstraat and along the Spaarne as well.
The agenda of Patronaat (Zijlsingel 2) has it all, from dance to heavy metal. De Lichtfabriek (Minckelersweg 2) is a cultural centre. There is always something going on in its three auditoriums. Club Stalker (Kromme Elleboogsteeg 20) is the place to party every night of the week. One of the most popular dance clubs in Haarlem can be found on the Grote Markt: Club XO. If you really want to dance the night away, go to Club 023 (Smedestraat 31). Its doors open at 11 in the evening and don’t close until 4 in the morning.
