It’s difficult to resist the beauty of the historical city of The Hague. It is always charming no matter what season you visit. Nimas Norma, who is passionate about travelling around the world, is our Holland Ambassador.

It’s difficult to resist the beauty of the historical city of The Hague. It is always charming no matter what season you visit.
The most beautiful city in the Netherlands
If you ask whether or not love at first sight is true, my answer is yes! The Hague is the first city that I visited in The Netherlands and, when I saw this beautiful city, it was love at first sight. I couldn’t resist the beauty and charm of Binnenhof (which now functions as parliament building but used to be the castle of a Count), the beautiful park and lake of Buitenhof or even the Peace Palace which houses several UN courts.
Besides being rich in history, The Hague is also an international city, housing several UN, EU and NATO bodies and/or headquarters such as the International Criminal Court, the Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and a number of other war crime tribunals and Europol.
For Indonesian people The Hague is a centre of Dutch-Indonesian culture because of the historical relationship that exists between the two countries. So many Indonesian people live in The Hague which is the main reason why so much delicious Indonesian food, restaurants and Tokos can be found.
Experience the cultural and historical event of ‘Prinsjesdag’ (which loosely translates as Princes Day) held in The Hague, every year, on the third Tuesday of September. On this day you can see the King and Queen of the Netherlands riding from Noordeinde, their city palace, to the Binnenhof. They are driven there in a golden coach parade escorted by the King’s guards on horses. The King opens the new parliamentary year by making a speech from his throne in the Ridderzaal (Hall of Knights).
If you visit The Hague in winter when it’s cold enough you will see the frozen lake in the Buitenhof, a beautiful scene. If you visit the city in the spring you will find lots of beautiful flowers all around the city, and the Peace Palace becomes even more enchanting when the flower garden in the front of the Palace is in full bloom. During the summer season, Scheveningen beach is the most popular destination. In autumn relax and take a little walk in the Haagse Bos to see beautiful colours changing on the trees in this city forest.
