'Art of another kind' was the name of an exhibition at the Guggenheim in New York in 2012. Works by artists like Pollock, Rothko, De Kooning and Francis were exhibited in a unique combination. The entire exhibition will soon be coming to the Cobra Museum in Amstelveen. A unique event!
In Holland for the first time
These same works have been on display before, when the Salomon R. Guggenheim Museum was opened in 1959. It is a unique collection. Most of the works from this international, abstract movement have never been shown in Holland before. Starting 5 April 2014, they will be exhibited in Holland for the very first time.
James Johnson Sweeney, the legendary director of the Guggenheim, called these 51 works by 44 artists 'tastebreakers', referring to the new boundaries the works established for art. Not only will the works of American artists be exhibited, it will also be the first time that the works of European abstract artists like Appel, Jorn and Alechinsky will be back on display in Europe.
