Parking in Amsterdam

Like most cities throughout the world, Amsterdam has many more cars than there are parking spaces. As a result the city pursues a fairly strict parking policy. Locals have a parking permit and all visitors have to pay for parking their car in the city.

Variable parking rates

In addition to the many underground and covered car parks, there are individual parking spaces on many streets and canals. Please bear in mind that rates vary throughout the city. Rates run from about €5 per hour in the inner city to 10 eurocents per hour in some shopping areas. You can use a debit card with PIN, a chip card and sometimes a credit card to pay for your parking space.

The cheapest way to park your car in the city centre is parking garage P1 Parking Amsterdam centre, next to the Central train station. You can park your car 24 hours for only €20,-. Towing scheme

Every parking area has many parking metres. These tell you how much to pay and how to pay for your parking space. Parking attendants inspect parked cars throughout the city. In addition to a parking fine your car may be towed away in some locations, which is an extremely expensive business.
