Public transport in Utrecht

If you want to explore Utrecht, we definitely recommend using the public transport system. Not only is it the most practical way to get from A to B; it is also the cheapest way to get around (apart from walking, of course). There are regular bus services, so you never have to wait for long.

Payment

You need an OV chip card to pay for your public transport costs in Utrecht and elsewhere in the Netherlands. A chip card costs €7.50. The kilometre rate is 11 eurocents; the check-in fee is 83 eurocents.

Anonymous OV chip card.

For tourists, we recommend buying an ‘anonymous’ card. And whichever card you use, always remember to check in and out or a fine may be imposed. If you want to use the night service, please check the itineraries and timetables beforehand.
