This summer, Scheveningen will be celebrating many festivals once again. From the North Sea Regatta and fireworks festival to the arrival of the season’s first herring on Vlaggetjesdag, Scheveningen is good for some spectacular events in summer.
- Try your first fresh herring on Vlaggetjesdag this summer.
- See the spectacular fireworks shows from the Scheveningen beach.
- Witness the best sailboat races at the North Sea Regatta.
Vlaggetjesdag or Flag Day is the day on which the first herring is brought in. Scheveningen traditionally celebrates with a huge street festival. The ships are inspected in the harbour and there is a herring race. Or go to the beach volleyball tournament or one of the great activities for children.
This unique fireworks festival will be organised for the 36th time this year – it gets better every year! Fireworks organisations from several countries create the most beautiful fireworks shows in their bid to win an award. The fireworks can be seen from the beach, so if you are in Scheveningen in August, you should definitely go see them.
North Sea Regatta
The North Sea Regatta is Holland’s biggest sailboat race and a huge spectacle for both sailors and audience. Thousands of boats in different classes compete in wonderful races. Near the beach you can see (or participate in) other water sports like kite, wind and golf surfing. You can also simply enjoy the happy crowds, with top chefs presenting their dishes and plenty of live music.
