The Zuiderzee Museum is made up of an outdoor and indoor museum. The outdoor museum is laid out like a village. To this purpose striking houses and buildings from towns and villages on the former Zuiderzee were used. The three chimneys belonging to the limekilns is an important feature by which the museum is recognised. When approaching by boat they soon appear on the horizon. As soon as you go on land, you quite literally take a step back into the past. From 24 July to up and including 1 October the whole museum is dominated by the marriage and birth theme. And to lift the veil a little: in the chapel from Den Oever you can witness an old fashioned church wedding.
