Special Locations in the Central Museum
In addition, the main building - the Utrecht Centraal Museum Utrecht- has a number of special additional locations, such as the Dick Bruna House opposite the museum, with over 1,200 works by Bruna, and the Rietveld-Schröderhuis, one of its absolute top sections. This house is listed on the Unesco World Heritage List.
Oldest municipal Museum of Holland
The Centraal Museum Utrecht opened in 1838. It is the earliest municipal museum of Holland. It has been largely established in a former medieval monastery and possesses a varied collection. The museum was renovated in 1999 by architects Peter Versseput, Stéphane Beel and Lieven Achtergael. The Centraal Museum Utrecht comprises a series of pavilions around a courtyard.
