(Re)openings
Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
When the Stedelijk Museum reopens its doors in the Museumplein in 2010, the historic building will have been completely renovated and expanded with an extensive new wing as well as a new main entrance on the Museumplein. The new Stedelijk Museum will be a classic museum with a contemporary platform: in addition to a loosely chronological presentation of the collection in the original museum building, the new section, known affectionately as the ‘bathtub’, will keep a finger on the pulse of contemporary trends with exciting displays of recent art.
Hermitage Amsterdam
The Hermitage Amsterdam is currently housed in the Neerlandia building on the Nieuwe Herengracht, adjacent to the Amstelhof building. More than 450,000 visitors have enjoyed eight successful exhibitions here since February 2004. Starting in spring 2009, Russian art will be showcased in Amsterdam. The historic 17th-century Amstelhof building is more than ten times larger than the current Hermitage Amsterdam!
