Alfred Stevens
Van Gogh Museum
18 September 2009 to 24 January 2010
The Van Gogh Museum is hosting the first retrospective in thirty years of Belgian artist Alfred Stevens (1823-1906) from 18 September 2009 until 24 January 2010. The exhibition Alfred Stevens, featuring 64 paintings, is being organised in cooperation with the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium.
Unique exhibition of Stevens worldly women
Stevens was one of the most well-known artists in Paris in the second half of the 19th century. He caused a furore with his paintings of elegant, intriguing and distant women. The artist captured the contemporary worldly woman convincingly and deftly, paying close attention to the gorgeous textures of the clothing and luxuriously appointed interiors.
