Green Meetings: TargetNeutral

Climate neutral has become commonplace in many walks of life, including flights, motoring and our daily shopping basket. Now CSR-minded companies are taking this a step further with TargetNeutral conferencing.
Compensate CO2 emissions with nature projects
What does that mean? Quite simply that the conference’s CO2 emissions are compensated with nature projects. And this is done very thoroughly; because besides the conference’s own CO2 footprint, the compensation scheme also includes the conference-goers’ transport emissions.
Climate Neutral Group
The biggest provider of CO2 compensation in the Netherlands is Climate Neutral Group. CNG plants new trees and protects existing woods to help counter the exacerbated greenhouse effect. According to CNG, worldwide deforestation accounts for about twenty per cent of global warming. Alongside forestry projects the organisation also invests in renewable energy and savings projects – all this with a view to restoring the CO2 balance in the atmosphere.
Growing popularity
Climate-neutral conferences are growing in popularity – witness, for instance, the Fleet Management Congress in the spring of 2008 where the CO2 emissions of the 250 visitors and 30 exhibitors (7.8 tons) were fully compensated. And the VNG (Association of Netherlands Municipalities) is also doing its bit for a greener world: last year the VNG’s annual congress was TargetNeutral.
