Artis Royal Zoo is home to 750 species of animals, including zebras, giraffes, elephants and chimpanzees. Artis also has 300 species of trees and many gardens that blossom every spring. You won’t find another spot in Amsterdam that has more nature per square meter than the oldest zoo in Holland.
One of the great qualities of Artis is that it creates natural living environments for the animals, which you can experience too. One moment you’re at an African savanna with wildebeest, zebras and gazelles, the next moment you’re in the Aquarium surrounded by coral reefs and sharks. Here you also get an impression of what kind of animals live in the waters of the canals.
Imagine the zoo as described above and add the biggest Planetarium of Holland, a Zoological and well preserved 19th century architecture, and you’ll get the Artis Royal Zoo. It’s more than just a zoo, it’s a remarkable place where nature, culture, knowledge and pleasure come together.
