Architecture & Design

Ever since the early twentieth century, Rotterdam is internationally renowned as a centre of modern architecture. Innovative, daring structures have been built in the city and developments are continuing apace. Rotterdam’s most outstanding architectural icons show perfectly how ideas about the design of the city have changed constantly.

The Mayor and Aldermen of Rotterdam have earmarked 2007 as the city’s Year of Architecture. Rotterdam 2007 City of Architecture is a wide-ranging festival that focuses on outstanding buildings and urban sites in Rotterdam. The festival comprises special exhibitions, events and “Sites & Stories”, an audio tour around the high points of over a hundred years of modern architecture.
