Holland Clubbing Interviews Armin van Buuren

Armin van Buuren chatted to Holland Clubbing about his favourite gigs, his dreams and what he really thinks of Tiesto, after being crowned number one DJ in the world for the third consecutive year.

HC:Congratulations Armin!
AVB: Thanks!

HC:So in 2002 you said your dream was to become the number one DJ, you’ve now been the number one for the third consecutive year, and you also married your long term girlfriend this year, congratulations on that too! What more could you wish for?
AVB: Quite a few people have asked me this question, and it scares me, because I’m only 32 and I still feel I have a lot to accomplish. I still have a lot of dreams and so many things that I want to carry out. Of course it’s a dream come true being the number one DJ in the world, but the focus is always to make great music. I’m not done with the touring yet, we did “Armin only” which was on tour last year and was a big success so I want to make it bigger and extend the whole idea behind “Armin only”. Even though it may seem I have succeeded in life DJ Mag wise, musically I still have a lot to achieve.

HC:Tiesto has been number two for three years; do you think he’s got a contract running on you?
AVB:(Laughs!) I don’t know! I’m a Tiesto fan, I’m also a Ferry Corsten fan, a Sander van Doorn fan...I buy all their CD’s, It’s hard to compare myself to these people, they play different music and a lot are doing really well doing their own thing, I don’t feel better than any of these guys I think they’re doing a great job in what they do. DJ mag is a great list but it’s also just a list.

HC:What’s your favourite gig in Holland?
AVB: That’s a hard one to answer, Holland has so many big festivals, you’ve got Dance Valley, Mysteryland is great, and Sensation is really cool, Trance Energy is one of my favourites; there are so many big events. That’s the thing in Holland, we all most have no club scene because we have so many huge events! It’s probably one of the hardest questions to answer because there is so much going on in Holland, but if I’d have to choose one it would probably be a tie between Dance Valley and Trance Energy.

December 5th 2009, Armin will play a 9hour set "The Best of Both Worlds" together with Markus Schulz in the Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam.
