Four Day Marches Nijmegen

Nijmegen and surroundings
21 - 24 July 2009

Every third Tuesday of July the International Four Day Marches start in Nijmegen. The Four Day Marches is the biggest walking event in the world with 40,000 - 45,000 participants. At the same time the Four Day Marches Festival takes place where participants and non-participants party it up making it the biggest festival of Holland with a crowd of 1 million.

Four Day Marches Cross
The Marches comprise four days of walking with daily distances from 30, 40 or 50 kilometres. To obtain the much desired Four Day Marches cross you have to complete a daily distance depending on age and gender. Each day has a different route and you will pass through the beautiful landscape of the Nijmegen area and typical Dutch villages. Day one you'll walk to Elst, on day two you have to get to Wijchen, you'll arrive in Groesbeek on day three and on the last day you will finish in Nijmegen on the "Via Gladiola".

Festive Finish
On Friday, the last day of the Marches your walk towards Nijmegen is one big party. Loads of spectators queue up along the last kilometres of the route to cheer you on. Brass bands will join the Marches so you will finish at Nijmegen with music.

The Four Day Marches Festival
The Four Day Marches Festival starts a few days before the actual Marches start and get the city in the right mood for the participants of the marches. The city centre of Nijmegen transforms into a festival place where Dutch and international artists and bands will perform. The Four Day Marches Festival takes place in 2009 from 18 - 24 July.
