Skating
Our country is considered one of the best inline skating countries in the world. Great day trips have been mapped out throughout the country.
Achterhoek
The Achterhoek region lies in the eastern part of Holland. In the past few years lots of skating and inline skating routes have been mapped out here. Small wonder, as the conditions are perfect in this area. Quiet roads combine with smooth surfaces and a varied landscape.
De Graafschap is the most northwestern part of the Achterhoek. Seven skating and inline skating routes and connecting routes, with a total length of 200 kilometers, have been sign-posted. The routes can be covered separately, however, longer tracks can be traveled by linking various routes. All routes have been sign-posted with the utmost care and special attention has been paid to road surfaces. The routes have interesting names such as Stork Route, Witch Route and Castle & Convent Route. Distances range from 15 to 35 kilometers. Local tourist information offices in the Achterhoek region sell route descriptions of each of the routes.
Frisian Eleven Cities
What takes place on crunchy snow in the winter can also take place on land with the sun high in the sky during summer. During this in-line skating tour you meet the famous bridges, places to cheer and the most wanted spots to watch the ice-skating event of Holland, the "Elfstedentocht". Just as exciting and lovely as from the ice is to pass by the sturdy Friesian cities like Sloten, Hindeloopen, Workum and Bolsward. Don't miss this legendary tour along the Friesian Eleven Cities on four or five wheels.
The routes that are available for Holland's northernmost province Friesland are derived from the famous Eleven City ice-skating route. Descriptions of both the full (230 km!) route and parts of the route are available.
Flevoland
The young province of Flevoland is eminently suited to skating and in-line skating because of its excellent network of cycle paths. Each route offers some extras. Per route you will find an indication whether it is suitable for beginners or advanced skaters. The routes are available from all VVV's (tourist information offices) in Flevoland. Price EUR 6,80 for a set of all six skate routes. The routes are described in detail and come with a practical, plasticized map.
