The Netherlands has over 60 open-air theaters, about 50 of which are active. Annually, these theaters organize about 600 performances that are enjoyed by 250,000 to 300,000 visitors between May and September. Originally, these theaters were often set up for doing large-scale theatrical performances in the open air, but today's theaters offer a much more diverse program.

Theater, music and dance

In addition to drama, you can experience a very extensive program including children's shows, concerts, cabaret, musicals, opera, classical music, jazz, open-air movies, dance festivals (ranging from African festivals to contemporary dance festivals), and even drama workshops for primary schools. There are performances both by amateur and professional groups and both well-known and unknown artists. There are programs for young and old, modern and classic. Both regular and novice theatergoers will enjoy the special open-air ambience and atmosphere.

Vondelpark Open-air Theater

One of the most famous open-air theaters in the Netherlands is the Vondelpark Open-air Theater. This theater offers free performances all summer long. On the cozy stage in the center of the Vondelpark, all performing arts can be found: from classical music to hip hop, from cabaret to musical theater and from youth theater to dance performances.
