Optical illusion – the building on fire!
The flaming red and orange Calypso shimmers in the sunlight and gives the impression that it is in constant movement. Designed with a sloping façade and panels of irregular glass, the light is being reflected on different sides giving the building its seemingly fluid structure.
It was built from 2009 to 2012 by Alsop Architects, a British architectural firm known for their distinctive modern buildings with futuristic and fantastical styles. One of the firm’s signatures is to use bright colors and unusual shapes, which often ends up being the topic of hot discussion and debate by locals.
