On this special evening the beautiful Gothic Town Hall on Gouda Market Square is illuminated by candlelight, while the surrounding buildings are lit with Christmas trees and fairy lights to give the town that festive feel.

In city centre of Delft many special activities are organised to start the Christmas season. In the early evening the lights in the Christmas tree on the Market square are lit. At the same time, the rest of the city will be darkened, creating a romantic atmosphere. One of Amsterdam's immutable traditions is the Christmas matinee concert given by the Royal Concertgebouw in the famous hall after which it is named.
