The Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam displays the history of the western ladies’ bag from the late Middle Ages up to the present day. The collection demonstrates that the bag exists in a wide variety of forms, functions, materials and decorations.
The Museum of Bags and Purses offers a permanent, historical collection. Frequently, new exhibitions are organized with work of contemporary bag designers from The Netherlands and overseas.
The museum is located in an imposing canal house built in 1664 for the mayor of Amsterdam at that time. The painted ceilings and chimney paintings are worth a visit itself.
Ladies are guaranteed to have a great time at the Museum of Bags and Purses. Men are advised to give it a try, because if the bags don’t amaze you, the canal house and former mayor residence most certainly will.
