 Wackiest neck-gables

Metal frontage

During the 17th and 18th centuries the neck-gable was the most popular type of gable in Amsterdam. They were no longer built after the 18th century. Architect Sjoerd Soeters, however, recently created some tongue-in-cheek neck-gables in Kerkstraat. Go and see his work at Kerkstraat 206 - 210. The buildings boast the three wackiest neck-gables of Amsterdam.

CAR TIRES
In the left and the right gable you see the construction year of 1995 mirrored. Two circles crown the middle gable. Upon closer inspection these are two car tires! Sjoers Soeters also designed the buildings to the left and the right of these three houses. Kerkstraat 204 is the architect's own office. The wide metal facade contrasts boldly with the historical surroundings.
