't Buffet van Odette & Yvette This pleasant restaurant, located on a gorgeous part of the Herengracht canal, has a light and airy interior and relaxed atmosphere. A perfect setting for a good lunch! They serve wonderful sandwiches, soups and omelets and have daily pasta special. Very popular with the locals! Herengracht 309 Phone: + 31 20 423 6034
Café Restaurant Amsterdam This huge restaurant is located slightly outside the city center in the former water pumping station of the City of Amsterdam. Some pumps are still in tact and the overall design is impressive (such as the lamps that once were used at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam). The food is uncomplicated, friendly priced, good and served in a relaxed atmosphere. A nice place to bring your kids. Watertorenplein 6 Phone: + 31 20 682 2666
Cinema Paradiso This is the place to go if you want to meet famous Amsterdammers or if you just would like to admire and be admired. They serve great Italian food in a wonderful atmosphere. You cannot make reservations, but having drinks at the bar and waiting for your table is an experience in itself. Westerstraat 186 Phone: + 31 20 623 7344
De Kas De Kas is a truly unique restaurant in Amsterdam. Everything is special here: the location (in a large greenhouse, with glass ceilings), the interior (serene, simple, yet very cozy) and the menu (basic and delicious with lots of ingredients from their own greenhouse and cattle). Want to be even more exclusive? Make reservations at the chef's table in the kitchen. Kamerlingh Onneslaan 3 Phone: + 31 20 462 4562
En Pluche The well-known Dutch TV-chef Joop Braakhekke recently opened a new restaurant, next to his other restaurant 'Le Garage'. It has been a hit since the opening. Amsterdam's hip and trendy lounge on its red plush couches while nibbling on highly- rated, well prepared 'street food' such as tapas and oriental snacks. Ruysdaelstraat 48 Phone: + 31 20 471 4695
Hein At this informal place, named after its owner, they serve delicious breakfast and lunches in a nice ambience. The restaurant is closed for dinner, but if you come with 8 or more, Hein will open its doors and cook especially for you, or let you do the cooking under Hein's supervision. Berenstraat 20 Phone: + 31 20 623 1048
Le Garage Le Garage has been the place to be for a pretty long time, with its hip 80's interior (mirrors all around) and a steady clientele of Dutch VIPs, wannabe's and lots of locals. Its success also comes form the consistently good food, the well-known chef Joop Braakhekke, a great ambiance and good service. Ruysdaelstraat 54-56 Phone: + 31 20 679 7176
Le Hollandais Even though the name means 'The Dutch', there is not much Dutch about it. This great restaurant is located a bit outside the city center, but really worth the trip. The interior is hip and modern, the food is French / Mediterranean and really very delicious. Do ask for advise when it comes to the wines - Michelin has awarded the restaurant for their excellent choice of wines. Amsteldijk 41 Phone: + 31 20 679 1248
Mamouche This Moroccan restaurant opened its doors only recently, but it's already a hit in Amsterdam, packed with hip and trendy people. Its interior is dark and sober, but the Oriental touch and Moroccan lounge music make it real cozy. The food is surprising: Moroccan ingredients, combined in international dishes. A place you should check out while in Amsterdam. Quellijnstraat 104 Phone: + 31 20 673 6361
Kaiko This place is heaven for the true sushi fan. Located a bit outside the center of Amsterdam, but worth the trip if you want to taste what is said to be 'the best sushi in Amsterdam and surroundings'.
