Indoor shopping in Amsterdam
With its many lovely little shopping districts and special addresses, Amsterdam offers plenty of opportunities to shop. But what if the weather is not so good? Well, why not step inside a beautiful department store or shopping centre and do your shopping indoors? We have selected several tips for you – and they are worth a visit when the sun is shining, too!
Magna Plaza (Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 182): This beautiful two-storey shopping centre is located in a wonderful building that used to be the headquarters of the Amsterdam postal service. It mainly features fashion and shoe shops. It is definitely worth a visit even if just for the building, which is a UNESCO monument. It is located conveniently near the Dam on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal.
De Bijenkorf (Dam 1): Amsterdam’s famous Dam square features this large and exclusive department store with leading brands such as Hermès and Louis Vuitton. From fashion and design to perfumes and from interior design to literature, this is definitely the place to go if you want to ‘shop till you drop’.
Maison De Bonneterie (Rokin 140): This old, famous family company can be found in a beautiful, elegant building on the Kalverstraat. The fashion department store stocks the best fashion brands on several floors, from casual to festive apparel.
De Kalvertoren (Kalvertoren 220A): A big and modern shopping centre occupying several authentic old buildings on the Kalverstraat. It features plenty of fashion and footwear brands as well as HEMA, the typically Dutch department store.
