Holland's Top Michelin Restaurants

Holland is well known for Dutch cheese, pancakes, and sweets (not to mention herring).  But the Netherlands also has 98 michelin starred restaurants and each year the list grows.

The Hallmark of these restaurants is a sophisticaled blend of local and exotic ingredients and classical French culinary techniques.  In Holland, two- and three-star Michelin restaurants will use local produce, northern European seafood specialties including mussels, lobsters, and langoustine, local livestock and game, including pigeon and Zeeland lamb.



There are two 3-star Michelin restaurants:

Oud Sluis

A Sergio Herman restaurant and guesthouse, tops the list.  Located near the Belgian border in the south west corner of Holland, Sluis is a town known for its shopping and proximity to the beaches.  The restaurant specializes in seasonal, home-grown produce, and 7 different oyster preparations. 

Restaurant De Librije

De Librije restaurant is located in a 15th century monastery library with high ceilings and old world charm.  The menu from Jonnie and Thérèse Boer include things like; -20 degrees Celsius cooked egg yolk,  acid bomb, rabbit kidneys, and cod stomach.   The 7 and 8 course tasting menus highlight mastery of traditional and exotic ingredients.

Ron Gastrobar

One of only 2 of Amsterdam’s  Michelin starred restaurants in Amsterdam that have two stars. Ron Blaauw focuses on an eclectic menu that involves elements of molecular gastronomy to add surprising tastes and textures to their dishes. 

Ciel Bleu

Located on the 23rd floor of the Hotel Akura, Ciel Bleu is famed as much for its view of Amsterdam as for its cuisine.   The menu leans toward sumptuous presentations of seafood: King crab, Siberian sturgeon caviar, lobster with farmhouse butter and truffled macaroni.  

De Lindenhof

Set in an idyllic farmhouse with extensive garden, De Lindenhof specializes in Dutch and Belgian dishes.   Giethoorn is a small canal village that was known as “Venice of the Netherlands” for its canal based transport system (no cars). Nowadays, visitors come for the old Holland feel and rent boats and houses in the summer for relaxation.

De Bokkedoorns

A French restaurant tucked away in the dunes just north of Haarlem, the two-star establishment is part of a local producers and restaurant alliance with tasting menus to match.  The highlight is the set, three and four course lunch menus which feature a mixture of pre-meal amuses including blini, cod sashimi with crème fraiche and move on to red beet sauce splashed pigeon.

't Brouwerskolkje

Located in Haarlem, only 30 minutes from Amsterdam, 't Brouwerskolkje is led by Moshik Roth, who travels regularly collaborate with Jean-Gorges Klein of the three-starred l'Arnsbourg restaurant in Alsace. The menu is created from a mix of both classical and molecular techniques, and the presentation is often as interesting as the food. The restaurant has only six tables, so reservations are suggested.

Boreas

An early 20th century villa in the heart of Heeze with a cozy yet contemporary ambiance and an excellent garden terrace. The cuisine is noted for blending tradition and innovation.  Boreas makes an excellent side-trip from Eindhovenin the South of Holland. 

Inter Scaldes

Inter Scaldes is a famed English-style garden manor and restaurant. It is located within easy driving distance of Zeeland's coast or the picturesque villages of Yerseke, Middelburg, Veere and Zierikzee. The manor has 12 rooms and the restaurant focuses on Zeeland’s local bounty including oysters, lobster, mussels, and bass, plus Zeeland lamb. 

Da Vinci

Set in a designer room that overlooks the harbor in Maasbracht, Da Vinci features simple menus that may surprise some two-star restaurant connoisseurs.  The menu changes every four to five weeks depending on what’s seasonally available in the markets. 

Restaurant Beluga

An ultra-modern exterior hides a traditional, lavish, and old-world dining experience.  Reviews highlight Beluga’s impeccable service. As with many other two-star establishments the menu draws heavily on local seasonal food, prepared with an exquisite touch. 

Parkheuvel

Overlooking the Maas, this posh restaurant run by chef-owner Cees Helder, is said to be popular among the harbor barons, who can oversee their dockside territory.  Often said to be one of the Netherland’s top three restaurants, Parkheuvel is famed for its seafood and is on its way to reclaiming a 3rd star. 

De Zwethheul

Jelly of lobster, goose liver and truffle, and tartar of scallops are just a few of highlights of Mario Ridder’s establishment. De Zwetheul is just a short ride from Delft, the restaurant sits in a picturesque location overlooking the Schie River.

De Leuf

Located in a small village outside Maastricht, De Leuf is a culinary getaway.  The restaurants features four and six course menus include that include an overnight stays in a beautiful renovated farm. 

De Leest

Just outside Apeldorn and within striking distance of Holland’s national parks, De Leest distinguishes itself for a subtle and balanced pairing of wines and seafood dishes.
