The Hoge Veluwe

Welcome to one of the largest undivided nature reserve in the Netherlands. Here you can spend hours wandering through the woods, heathlands, shifting sands and estates. The extensive natural areas are ideal for biking and walking. Permanent inhabitants of De Hoge Veluwe include wild boar, red deer, roe deer, mouflon sheep, foxes and numerous predatory birds.

Activities at De Veluwe

De Hoge Veluwe is located in the province of Gelderland and combines well with city trips and historical tours. Besides the larger cities of Arnhem, Apeldoorn and Zwolle, you can choose to visit the nearby Hanseatic cities, such as Doetinchem, Zutphen and Deventer. These beautiful settlements are packed with historical monuments and still breathe the charm and prosperity of the 14th and 15th centuries.

There are also plenty of other highlights in the vicinity of the Hoge Veluwe. For example the 300 year old Palace Het Loo; the breathtaking palace gardens and the beautiful interiors of this former royal palace can be admired.
Are you traveling with kids? Then the Apenheul a must! Nowhere else will you find so many different kinds of monkeys, and be allowed to come so close to them. Hold your belongings tightly because the monkeys are very curious.
To the west of the Veluwe there are lakes with sandy beaches, especially popular in the summer among families and water sport enthusiasts.

The cultural highlight of the Hoge Veluwe is deeply hidden in the woods- the Kröller-Müller Museum. Admire the collection of over ten thousand artifacts, including the largest private collection of Van Gogh paintings in the world and one of the finest sculpture gardens in Europe. It is not surprising that people come from all over the world to see the Kröller-Müller Museum.

Explore the Veluwe on a white bicycle

The Hoge Veluwe National Park covers 5,400 hectares of diverse landscapes. In order to explore this vast area, the park offers free white bicycles. With over 1600 kilometers of bicycle paths, there are an infinite variety of routes. For this part of the park, you need to purchase a ticket at one of the entrances to the park. There are parking lots where you can trade your car for a bike, and a visitor center where they will give you more information.
