Hidden Secrets

Lab 111

Once the place where the deceased were examined, LAB111 - Location Arie Biemondstraat 111 - is now a cultural incubator. The name refers to the original function of the building as the pathological anatomy laboratory of the university hospital.

LAB111 fulfils an important function as a meeting place for the arts and creative sector of Amsterdam. Artists and the public meet here in a relaxed and inspiring environment. NASA, the New Amsterdam Art Space, has fifteen studios for artists, two screening rooms, rooms for cultural and social programmes, and exhibition spaces for contemporary art.

The former Pathological Anatomical Laboratory is an attractive venue for large and small dinners, conferences, festivals, symposiums, lectures, presentations, and events. The capacity ranges from 5 to 500 people.

The chapel is a somewhat controversial area, because of its former function. This unique space is ideal for meetings and events for up to 100 people.

The Auditorium is more than 240 m2 large, the largest room of the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory. The auditorium is furnished to resemble a black box theatre, and features a telescopic stand. It has capacity for up to 12 guests. With its maximum height of nine meters, the Auditorium is particularly suitable for large projections, lectures, plenary sessions, conferences, and multimedia communications for medium-sized groups, as well as for dinners.
