The Netherlands and High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM)

Intensive collaboration is characteristic of the Dutch HTSM sector. Thanks to the quintessentially Dutch knowledge and consultation economy, specialist suppliers, research institutes and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can easily find each other here. And the many manufacturing industries based in the country, including the machine and systems industry, automotive and aerospace materials, are closely interlinked.

HTSM segments in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is the home base of multinationals like ASML, Philips and TomTom. Our expertise touches numerous segments, such as applications for the semiconductor market, smart energy/smart grids, smart health, robotic surgery, inkjet technology, smart mobility, aerospace materials and cogeneration. Moreover, we are the world leader in designing hi-tech equipment and micro/nano components.

Top sector HTSM

For this reason, the Dutch government has designated the HTSM sector as one of the 9 top sectors in which it wants the country to excel. Within the top sector HTSM, government, researchers and companies are looking for ways to strengthen one another in a structured way. The parties receive targeted support from the Dutch government. Moreover, the sector is heavily organised around an internationalisation agenda.

Top team

HTSM has a top team that encourages innovation. This team includes representatives of science, government, business and in many cases also education and other parties. The figurehead for HTSM is Amandus Lundqvist. He is the chairman of the ICT cooperation organization SURF and former CEO of IBM Netherlands. Lundqvist is the driver of the top team and point of contact for the sector's international action agenda.

Join the knowledge flow!

The Dutch culture of consultation is the driving force behind the partnership within the top sector. International conferences form an important link within that culture. Conference cities such as Amsterdam, The Hague, Maastricht and Rotterdam bring together knowledge flows from the top sector, and make sure conferences attract notice within those flows.
