Art Rotterdam Week 2015 will once again transform Rotterdam into a dazzling festival of culture and contemporary art during the first week of February. Art lovers will have the opportunity to visit numerous art and design fairs, unique exhibitions, site fairs, open studios and pop-up shows during the event from 5 through 8 February 2015. One of the event’s most popular attractions is Art Rotterdam, which is regarded by some as the leading art fair in Holland. Art Rotterdam will be held at the Van Nelle Factory that was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site last summer.
Art Rotterdam (5-8 February 2015) will bring the latest developments in the visual arts into focus again during this sixteenth edition. This art event is increasingly seen as an alternative to the large international fairs because it succeeds in approaching young art from multiple angles within a diverse range of exhibition concepts. The Projections exhibition, for example, presents video art in an open and interactive setting. The Mondriaan Fund will once again exhibit works by young talented artists in the spectacular hall of the Van Nelle Factory’s former distribution centre.
A new feature of this year’s edition of Art Rotterdam is the podium for young talent called Intersections. Fons Hof (Director of Art Rotterdam): ‘Intersections shows a very specific part of the art world: the places where artists can create their first exhibitions in complete freedom. This makes it a wonderful addition to Art Rotterdam’s range of exhibitions devoted to young art.’ The first edition of Intersections will centre on the theme of the Netherlands-Flanders Year 2015 and will consequently focus exclusively on Dutch and Flemish initiatives. Young artists working in the fields of video, installation and performance art will have the chance to push their artistic boundaries in practice in the Van Nelle Factory’s 1,300 square metres of former workshops.
This is the second time the fair is being held in the Van Nelle Factory. Visitors will also be able to take a guided tour of the Van Nelle Factory. Experienced architectural specialists will serve as the guides for these group tours that will include an exhibition and a film presentation. The two-Michelin-star restaurant FRED in Rotterdam will open a pop-up restaurant in the Van Nelle Factory’s Schiegebouw.
