Escher – Other World exhibition

Nov. 30, 2022

From optical illusions and impossible architecture to realistic landscapes the work of Maurits Cornelius Escher (1898-1972) has it all. Birds turning into fish, water flowing upwards, two hands drawing each other. M.C. Escher masterfully transformed blank sheets of paper into infinite personal worlds that play with our perception. His virtuoso metamorphoses and grid-like patterns amaze and inspire people the world over.

The exhibition will feel like you are stepping into the world of Escher. Of course the exhibition will showcase his famous prints which will be combined with an installation by the Belgian artists and architect duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh inspired by Escher’s work. The interaction between the two will provide a unique experience and feeling.

2023 will be the 125th anniversary of M.C.Escher’s birth. With the largest collection of any museum in the world, Kunstmuseum den Haag will be at the very centre of these celebrations. The city of The Hague will celebrate the artist throughout the year.

Escher – Other World runs at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag 18 February – 10 September 2023.
