The Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam
The building that houses the Tropenmuseum is worth a visit all by itself. Its opening as the ‘Colonial Institute’ was witnessed by Queen Wilhelmina in 1926. After passing through the entrance, you will find yourself in the Light Hall, from which you can survey the entire monument. The design by J.J. van Nieukerken was put on the National Monuments List in 2003.
The museum’s surroundings are also worth exploring, as the neighborhood is one of the hippest in Amsterdam. You can also visit Artis Zoo. The Oosterpark rubs shoulders with the Tropenmuseum and a selection of restaurants and cafés can be found nearby.
Tropenmuseum opening hours
The museum is opened Tuesdays through Sundays. During holidays it is also open on Mondays from 10:00 to 17:00. Would you like to visit the Tropenmuseum in combination with other museums? The Holland Pass is an excellent way to save money.
