Pathé Tuschinski Amsterdam
Abraham Tuschinski, the owner, had a big say in the design that is characterized by the building styles called Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, and Amsterdamse School. Not everyone was happy with the design. Just after its doors opened, several newspapers called the theater a monstrosity. They felt it was too colorful and too gaudy. Today, the Dutch have embraced the building and it has become one of the most popular cinemas in Holland. It is where big opening nights occur.
The cinema was renovated several times through the years. Don’t forget to check out the carpet when you walk in. It was made in one piece in Morocco. KLM flew it to Holland in a single piece.
