Drenthe has been inhabited for thousands of years. The stories of the past are told through archaeological finds, many of which are exhibited at the Drents museum. One example is the Yde girl, who became famous due to the reconstruction that was created of her mummified face. The archaeological finds allow us to understand what life must have been like in the past.
Art from the past and present
In addition to paintings, you can see art objects from the period around 1900 at the museum. The Ballroom allows you to experience the interiors of the past. As one of the few Dutch museums with a contemporary realist collection, the museum has also welcomed contemporary art.
Holland’s biggest dollhouse
You can take a tour of the ‘dollhouse’: pick one of the inhabitants who will guide you through the wonderful rooms of this rich family from Drenthe.
In addition to the permanent collection, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions on a frequent basis.
