Operation Market Garden
From an historical perspective the Freedom Museum is situated on a unique location: During Operation Market Garden in September 1944, one of the largest air landing operations in history took place here. A few months later in February 1945, the immense Rhineland Offensive started from the meanwhile liberated region (Operation Veritable), after which the allies occupied large parts of Germany and liberated the Netherlands, thus laying the foundation for the liberation of the whole of Western Europe.
Live through the war, occupation and liberation
In the museum, you live through the period preceding the war, experience the occupation, celebrate the liberation and witness the rebuilding of Holland and Europe after the war. By using smells, interactive presentations, diorama’s, models, original film and sound fragments, the liberation is depicted captivatingly. The museum shows both young and old the current value and importance of democracy, freedom and human rights.
