Start your day early to witness the largest flower auction in the world in the town of Aalsmeer (Legmeerdijk 313, Aalsmeer), flowers and plants of every shape and size can be found here. The best time to view the Dutch auction process is from 7.00-9.00am Monday-Friday.
Afterwards take the car and drive 45min north to the town of Edam, world-famous for its iconic round wheels of cheese. Cheese markets are held every Wednesday during summer months, but the 17th century architecture will make a visit to this town worthwhile all year round. Stop in for coffee at one of the cozy cafes in the center of town. Highlights are Dam Square, the Carillon tower dating back to 1561, City Hall and a visit to a traditional cheese warehouse.
Continue driving north to the village of Enkhuizen for a visit to the Zuiderzee Museum (Zijlweg 2, Enkhuizen). Start off your visit by having lunch in one of the cute restaurants on the property. The open-air museum features authentic houses and buildings from nearby fishing villages dating back to 1880. The Zuiderzee Museum features the old as well as the new. End your day in the charming village of Monnickendam, a 45min drive from Enkhuizen. Stroll around the old center and enjoy a pre-dinner drink at one of the outdoor cafes before heading to dinner at stylish Restaurant Posthoorn (Noordeinde 43, Monnickendam). A 20min drive will bring you back to Amsterdam.
