Cadzand: a coastal area in Zeeland

The area of Cadzand lies deep in the south of the Dutch province of Zeeland, at the border of the neighboring country of Belgium. Cadzand-Bad, the southernmost resort in the Netherlands, is on the North Sea coast and is part of Cadzand. By contrast, the village of Cadzand is located a little further inland. This part of Zeeland, which borders Belgium, is known as Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. And the atmosphere bears more than a few similarities to the flair of the neighboring country. Menus in the restaurants in and around Cadzand display delicacies such as Belgian waffles and Belgian beer, and you can get to the lovely Belgian cities of Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp quickly by car.

A healthful seaside resort

Cadzand was awarded the rating of Holland's 'most healthful seaside resort'. The official rating was given to Cadzand, together with Domburg, as one of the two resorts in Holland by the European Spas Association and the German Spas Association. Cadzand owes this official status to the quality of its beaches and the sea water, which support the health of tourists and residents. The healthful sea water, the pure sea air and the products of Zeeland are also used in numerous wellness activities and thalassotherapies on offer in Cadzand. Activities in Cadzand

The North Sea coast at Cadzand is marked by fine sandy beaches - ideal for a long walk along the beach! For example, you can walk from Cadzand-Bad in a south-west direction through the nature reserve of Het Zwin, which stretches down to Belgium. When you're going for a walk, look closer at the sand; you might stumble upon a fossilized shark tooth. If you'd rather travel by bicycle, the coast from Cadzand-Bad to Breskens invites you to come on a cycling tour. The cycle path, which is almost 16 km long, will always take you along the seafront. Beach lovers who fancy a change can unfold their beach towels on one of the neighboring beaches, such as Nieuwvliet-Bad and Groede. Or you can take part in your favorite type of sport; in Cadzand-Bad and the surrounding area, there are fantastic opportunities for sailing and blokarts (the 'De Zeemeeuw' catamaran sailing school), surfing, kite surfing, golf (Cadzand-Bad short golf) and beach volleyball.

What is there to do in Cadzand?

A vacation in Cadzand guarantees beach fun for all the family. From gorgeous beaches, lovely dunes and the cozy 'de Wielingen' boulevard to the magical Mariakerk in the middle of the village. Cadzand is also located near the lovely 'Het Zwin' nature reserve, with an enormous variety of plants and countless bird species. A walk through this unique nature reserve is therefore also worthwhile! Cadzand is also an ideal address to discover more about Zeeland. You can take a day trip to the historic little village of Sluis, or take the ferry and discover the towns of Vlissingen and Middelburg.

Where can you eat a delicious meal in Cadzand?

  • The atmospheric restaurant Bruist!, which belongs to the De Drie Gevels hotel (address: Badhuisweg 58, Cadzand), is full of surprises, with an original kitchen and regional products.
  • Do you prefer haute cuisine in a relaxing Mediterranean atmosphere? Then 'Pure-C' (address: Boulevard De Wielingen 49, Cadzand), run by top chef Sergio Herman, is definitely a special experience. He magics incredible meals onto the table, based on all kinds of local products. The wines are excellent too!
  • De Piraat is a beach restaurant which also serves vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals.

Tip from the editor: Cadzand is home to the 'Nooit Gedacht' smock mill from 1898, and it's definitely worth seeing it inside and outside. Address: Zuidzandsestraat 3, Cadzand.

You can also quickly get from Cadzand to Middelburg or Zierikzee by car, where you can try Zeeland specialties such as 'Zeeuwse Bolus' (sweet pastry) or 'Schouws Palingbroodje' (eel sandwich).

Trip destinations in the surrounding area

With a 21 km long beach and several beach pavilions, the seaside resort of Renesse on the Zeeland island of Schouwen-Duiveland is an attractive place, and is known for its excellent water sports conditions, amongst other things. Near Renesse, you'll find the very interesting Deltapark Neeltje Jans, where you can learn everything about the world-famous  Delta Works . It's also worth taking the kids, as it has a large playground! Only a few kilometers away from Cadzand lies the little harbor town of Breskens, where both fishing boats and splendid yachts drop anchor.

The location of Cadzand near the Belgian border means that you can take a trip to the neighboring country. On the way to the Belgian coastal town of Knokke, you'll encounter the lovely nature reserve of Het Zwin. The wonderful historic city of Bruges, with its many attractions, is also definitely worth a day trip - you can get there in only half an hour by car. If you're traveling from Cadzand from the south, you'll cross the magnificent landscape of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, which is also part of the Netherlands. Sluis and Hulst are small towns with impressive monuments that are worth seeing.
